WHAT IS SALOON CARS QUEENSLAND

Saloon cars are a Commodore vs Falcon category at a price that everyone can afford and at a level of performance that makes this class an ideal way for the novice driver to get started.  Saloon car racing has been growing at a fairly rapid rate since it was first started as a low cost entry level sedan class way back in 2000.

The series originally used VN Commodores and EA Falcons, but has since been expanded to use VT Commodores and AU Falcons.  The Saloon Car series is a control class were some components, like the suspension package, is to be used by all cars in the field.  TASCCO (The Australian Saloon Car Company) is the controlling body and is constantly reviewing, changing and updating the control components to move with the changing requirements of the category.

At State level the original Saloon cars (VN and EA) run with the newer cars (VT and AU).  The National level is more heavily made up of the newer cars.  The original Saloon cars are very affordable entry level to the category and are still competitive against the newer cars.

GETTING INVOLVED

Did you dream of being a Racing Car driver as a kid?  Would you like to drive a Saloon Car?  How do I get involved?

Step 1

Firstly you need to get in contact with a car club.  As luck would have it, Saloon Cars Queensland are part of the QRDA (Queensland Racing Driver’s Association).  To contact the Saloon Car Queensland State Manager, please phone John Townsend on 0438 325 254 or by email at john@salooncarsqld.com.au.

Step 2

You will then need to obtain a CAMS Racing License to be able to compete at State and National level.  When you speak with John he will provide you with more information on this and help you through the process.

Step 3

You will need to get a Saloon Car.  There are often cars for sale in the Marketplace or lease arrangement are available.  Again John can answer all of your questions regarding how to buy or lease a car.
